A long time ago, before the world gained morals and cultural sensitivity, Halloween costumes were more about shock value, often including nods to real life issues. Basically you worked with what you could find on clearance or at hand.
But as the social landscape evolved, so did the awareness of what’s appropriate and what’s definitely not. Some costumes were completely tone deaf, lacked respect or were just plain wrong. Truly terrifying.
Now if someone were to use those costumes, they’d have a one way ticket to canceled city. The world has come very far in understanding the impact of out actions, but that doesn’t meant we can’t laugh at how outrageous it was back then.
