There are a lot of problems with owning an electric car, but rest assured people like you and me aren't going to be the ones to solve them. But this slideshow showcases the fearless tinkerers who decided to take on one of engineering's biggest challenges on their own. Unfortunately, I don't think they solved electric cars just yet.
Some claim their creations can “charge themselves downhill,” others swear a car battery taped to another car battery equals Tesla-level efficiency.
These are vehicles, but they also are moving experiments, held together by duct tape, optimism, and the faint smell of melting plastic. So grab your safety goggles and your sense of humor. It’s time to meet the self-proclaimed geniuses who definitely solved electric cars, just not safely.
