Some of these girls are a little scary...

“With my competitive background, it helped me have the drive. But my job working in sports performance has had the biggest impact in paying football because I am constantly around NFL athletes and trainers at the highest level that most girls don’t get to be around. That has really helped me develop my skills.”

“I am grateful to all those who have supported me throughout my rookie season playing in the LFL. I am grateful for that chance I had to play for the Seattle Mist; for the incredibly strong/amazing women, the coaching staff, and, of course, the Mistfit fans! I am grateful for the LA Temptation; Coach Tui’s love and support &, of course, the understanding of the women on the team. (You have nothing to worry about whether or not LA will do well at the QB position–there is talent there!) I am excited to see all the talent amongst all teams this season!”

“I was watching TV with my dad one day, and stumbled across it. It struck me that I could play football too. Simple, but I knew I would have a long road ahead of me. This experience has been more than I ever expected and I have really grown as a person. It is a lot of tough work, but I couldn’t be happier.”

“I’m not sure how many more years I’ll be playing. I don’t see myself playing with any team other than the Atlanta Steam unless I had to move. We’re a family. Everything they taught me, I could never leave them. My heart is here in Atlanta with my team and the city. I will definitely be back with the team next year. As far as after I graduate college, it depends on my career path. If it allows me to play football, I am all for it, and I’d love to play for as many years as possible. I love the sport and passionate about the league. I want to see it grow and also want to have a hand in its growth. I want to be a reason years on down the road as to why it’s become so big. I want to be a pioneer of the game. I would love to be considered that one day.”

Dakota Hughes, #18 Quarterback for the Atlanta Steam. She was a journalism student who learned how to balance work and football. She initially played intramural flag football when she was younger. “I’ve always loved contact sports. In my town, basketball was the big sport, and I was constantly fouling out of games (whoops). My dad was a pretty good wrestler, and he used to referee my sister and I wrestling when we were children. Even though she always weighed 50 lbs more than me, I had it in my head that I could beat her. The same mindset stands for football. I’m definitely not the biggest girl out there, but I’m certainly not scared of girls who have me by 50 lbs. You can’t be or you’ll get your shit rocked. Once I saw the LFL games on TV, I knew I wanted to play. And I knew I’d love it. The rest is history.”

“Coming back to Seattle was easy in a sense, seeing as I was accustomed to Coach Michaelson’s plays, practices, conditioning, and antics. The hard part was coming back late from Australia to the US season where the girls had already been through minicamp and training camp. Some feelings were hurt, and girls got bitter when I earned back my starting position and essentially benched two players from the positions they had been practicing in for four months before I got there.” She is an AdvoCare Distributor and sells health products and cleansers. Once she’s retired from athletics, Danika wants to open up a training facility to help athletes.
