The Google vs Bing memes dates back all the way to 2010, when Google started changing search results around queries related to suicide, deciding to share prevention hotlines when people searched for things related to self-harm. The idea of Google affecting search results dates back further, but at the time Bing didn't do things the same, thus giving birth to the Google vs Bing meme.

Good guy Google did the right thing, giving people access to support group and hotlines they could call when in crisis. However Bing, did not.
