Google doesn't always have the answers, and you better bet his wife will never let him live this down.

There's a longstanding stereotype (with a fair degree of truth to it) that men NEVER ask for directions. It might be that some guys feel that asking for help is a sign of weakness, or at the very least of admitting that you don't know what you're doing.

Personally, I've never had that issue, because I value getting to where I need to be in a timely manner over any perceived slights to my ego in the eyes of a stranger. Call me crazy!

The advent of GPS technology and smartphones has, thankfully, led to a lot fewer disputes about which way to go - but as this story illustrates, it's still far from infallible.
