Make love not war was a phrase/slogan commonly associated with the American counterculture of the 1960s. Initiated when mystic John Starr Cooke donated fifty dollars to artist Michael Bowen to get the slogan made into bumper stickers. It was used primarily by those who were opposed to the Vietnam War.
