Photos Recalling When Punk Was Louder Than the System
A movement that changed the world.

In the mid '70s, the back alleys of London and New York cooked up something special. The clubs got louder and the kids got angrier at the world. They wanted their voices heard, and to get rid of the passive peace and love mentality. That’s how punk began.
It wasn’t about poised and perfect, it was about having an attitude, power, and being loud enough when no one was listening. The spiked hair, pins and leather were not fashion choices but a rebellion against conformity.
The movement gave a voice to all the people that wanted their own place away from the mainstream. It definitely wasn’t made to last but it left its mark in the world and like that, what began as a tantrum became a cultural reset.
