Hollywood doesn't always know what to do with comedians.
When a stand-up comic hits it big, Hollywood always wants to find a way to get them on TV and use them for viewers. Ever since "Seinfeld" became a phenomenon, the model was to find a comedian with solid jokes and presence, then build an entire world and show around that. Some were successful - most weren't.
John Mulaney, Norm MacDonald, Ellen DeGeneres, even legends like George Carlin - they all had sitcoms that got on air but were quickly shot out of the sky.
1
The George Carlin Show
Ran from 1994 to 1995, and watered down Carlin's usually edgy material.
2
The Jim Gaffigan show
Last just one season in 2016 on TV Land.
3
The Ellen Show
Ellen's second attempt at a sitcom in 2001, it was taken of the air before they could release all the episodes.
4
The Bill Engvall Show
A one-season show from 2007, only notable because it was Jennifer Lawrence's first job.
5
The Norm Show
Two seasons air starting in 1999, but this wasn't Norm's best format in the end.
6
Charlie Hoover
This aired in 1991, and Sam Kinison was just as annoying in it as he was onstage.
7
Mulaney
John Mulaney's 2014 failure that lasted one season.
8
The George Wendt Show
The other Cheers spinoff from the nineties, it didn't last long.
9
The Paul Reiser Show
A completely forgotten show from 2011 that didn't air all of it's episodes.
10
The Michael Richards Show
A knock-off of "Colombo" that aired in 2000 and was quickly canceled.
11
The Martin Short Show
A talk show/sketch show that didn't utilize it's star as well as it could've.
12
The Jeff Foxworthy Show
Only worth mentioning because it was Haley Joel Osment's first role.
