As explained by a promotional video from McDonald’s they do use all of the same ingredients from their restaurant, they just give it a little more attention.

Then they pick their favorite pickles and buns and examine them for visual defects.

They place the toppings towards the front so they appear on camera, where as in the restaurant they would distribute them evenly.

They melt the edges of the cheese with a hair dryer to make the edges appear solid but melted.

They carefully add the condiments.

Take their snaps of the lopsided burger.

The take it into photoshop to round out some edges and lighten some dark spots.

And voila! One hamburger ready for print.
