A Country Singer Said Beyoncé’s New Album Isn’t Country, and Pretty Much Everyone Is Mad

Fellas, fellas, can’t we all just calm down and agree that this music sucks?

In March 2024, Beyoncé released an album called Cowboy Carter. As the name would imply, the album had a country theme and many of the songs on it were, well, country.

Now, you’d think that given the fact the album came out more than a year ago, people would have gotten their panties out of a knot about it. But of course, people are still upset that a woman from a different genre decided to start making country music. Didn’t seem to be a problem when Jelly Roll or Post Malone did it, but hey, what do I know? Maybe Beyoncé was just the straw that broke the camel’s back!

Among the most pantie-twisted is country singer Gavin Adcock. As his last name would imply, he’s a bit of a dick — so much so that he took time out of his own show to call out Beyoncé for not being country enough.

“That shit ain’t country music, and it ain’t ever been country music, and it ain’t gonna be country music!” he told his audience. In contrast, you can tell Adcock is a *real* country artist because he was arrested earlier this year for reckless driving with an open container, er, I mean, wears a bolo tie.

Since getting called out and clowned on by much of the internet, Adcock has since doubled-down, saying, “I really don’t believe her album should be labeled as country music. It doesn’t sound country, it doesn’t feel country, and I just don’t think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé.”

Now, this might make sense to you if you have the same amount of football-induced CTE that Adcock has. However, if you can look at songs like Morgan Wallen’s “Sunrise” and say it belongs in the same genre as Willie Nelson, I think it’s fair to say that we can all make a little room for Beyoncé, too.

Adcock has since had all of his social media filled with Beyoncé defenders, which I’m sure has been fun for him. These people are either saying he’s wrong, calling him stupid or, in classic internet fashion, making threats against him and his family.

But what do you think? Is Beyoncé country now? Or are you, like me, just tired of this conversation already?
