A Tidal Wave of A.I.-Slop Is Coming and There's Nothing We Can Do To Stop It
It’s been real.

The announcement video for OpenAI’s new A.I. video app, Sora, begins with the line, “Everything you are about to see and hear was generated with Sora 2.” The video then cuts, showing a “cameraman wiping a camera lens” and a “gaffer fixing a light stand” before cutting to a dead-eyed A.I. Sam Altman.
To many, the announcement marked the beginning of a “creative renaissance.” Altman, in a post on X, said, “There is something great about making it really easy and fast to go from idea to result, and the new social dynamics that emerge.”
The two-minute video, which cuts roughly once per second, is a fever dream of images that feel familiar. Altman transports himself to a Pandora-like ripoff before finding himself on the moon watching women play polo, before he sends it over to his colleague, who snowmobiles around the Arctic before then riding around on a dragon, as they both talk about the use cases of their new product. That is, if you have the attention span to hear them.
In Altman’s X post, the OpenAI CEO addressed concerns over a platform like Sora, admitting it has the potential to be an “addictive [sic] service.” Altman further admits that “we [OpenAI] also feel some trepidation” about releasing Sora into the world, as they can “imagine many ways it could be used for bullying.”
Hey, at least they’re still using their imaginations.
