Americans Are Romanticizing ‘Car Cuddling’
Get a room, guys.

A video of a couple cuddling in the front seat of a car, a blanket wrapped around them, rain falling on the sunroof and cinematic music playing in the background, is putting lonely people through the meat grinder.
The video has eight million views on X and thousands of comments from people holding back tears because they’re jealous of the love on display. But all I can think about is, “Why the hell are they in the front seat of the car?”
The car is, without a doubt, the only “shared” space Americans have. It’s also the perfect stage for viral videos. From food reviews to rants to now romance, the car is the most fitting backdrop for American life.
I’m not suggesting that couples making out in their cars is a new phenomenon, just that filming performative videos for social media of yourself cuddling in the driver’s seat is meant to strike a nerve with the internet.
Because everyone who’s ever done it in a car knows the backseat is where the real magic happens.
