Astronauts Had a Chicken Barbecue in Space
If they could do this, why the heck were we told they ate that crappy freeze-dried ice cream?

I’ll be honest, I don’t fully understand what astronauts are getting up to in space. I’m sure there’s some science being done or something, but every time we see videos coming out of a space station, it’s always someone playing guitar or finding a new way to drink coffee. I can’t afford rent — how does “filming yourself doing zero-gravity jumping jacks” help us here on Earth?
Still, if we’re going to send people into orbit, they might as well have some fun. For example, astronauts from China recently shared a video in which they revealed that they had a full-blown barbeque aboard their space station.
Apparently, the station now has an oven, and it was used to roast up a whole spread of meats, including chicken and black pepper steak.
The government says there are benefits to this oven beyond simply being able to throw a barbecue party whenever you want. They say that the introduction of the grill has increased the menu to more than 190 items and extended the meal cycle to 10 days, which allows astronauts to cook and bake foods like fresh vegetables, nuts, cakes and meat while in orbit.
Where do they get those fresh vegetables? From the space station’s vegetable garden. Yes, really.
Fine, China, you win this round. But our nation also invented the deep fried cheese curd, so let’s call it even.
