Asking for substitutions at a restaurant in Italy isn’t worth the trouble. First, you’re in Italy, the food is delicious. Second, Italians don’t like changing their recipes. Third, when did Gen Z start filming Karen-like videos of themselves aghast when a waiter doesn’t bend over backwards for their overly specific dietary demands?

Take this British lad on vacation in Rome. All he wants is a bowl of carbonara with chicken instead of “bacon,” and the waiter he’s trying to communicate this to couldn't care less about helping him.

I’ll forgive the Brit for not knowing that in Italy, they don’t serve “bacon” with carbonara; they serve guanciale, and I’ll forgive the waiter for not caring; he has enough customers to be as “rude” as he wants. But I will not forgive the man behind the camera, who is filming a video he knows is staged.

You can tell it’s fake because the camera never shows the waiter. A real complainer would make sure they got the money shot of “the world’s rudest waiter.”
