Two Chinese teenagers have been ordered to pay a fine of $300,000 after posting a drunken video of themselves peeing into a pot of broth at a popular Shanghai hotpot restaurant. The video, which was uploaded online in February, sparked widespread criticism on social media as it depicted the two 17-year-olds urinating into a pot of broth.
Haidilao, the chain hotpot restaurant, paid disgruntled customers thousands of dollars in compensation after the video went viral back in February and is now seeking damages from the teenagers. Though the restaurant confirmed that the pee-tainted broth was not served to customers, the incident damaged the brand’s reputation.
Why the teenagers decided to pee in the broth remains a mystery, a Shanghai court placed blame on the teens' parents, stating they "failed to fulfil their duty of guardianship."
You can say that again!
