Colleges Are Complaining About Students Using A.I., But They’re Using A.I. to Read Off the Names of Students at Graduation

Earlier this month, the internet collectively freaked out about a New York Magazine article that claimed that pretty much everyone was using A.I. to cheat their way through college. While universities hate this, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise — if you’re going to charge an 18-year-old 40k to 60k per year for an undergrad degree that’s, effectively, symbolic, you can’t be surprised that they’re going to find a way to maximize their grades with minimal effort.
Plus, if universities really hate artificial intelligence, they shouldn’t be using it, but as this recent video from Pace University shows, they’re utilizing A.I. software to read off students’ names instead of just having someone do it IRL. Sure, it reduces the amount of mispronunciations, but some of these kids just spent nearly $250K — they deserve a human voice!
