Newscasters are an especially insane bunch. It takes someone with a, let’s say, “special” mind to get psyched about the idea of waking up at three in the morning, getting into a full face of makeup and then telling people about the “massive car pileup on I-45” before they’ve even had their coffee.

That may be why the presence of someone relatively normal, like a comedian, is so welcome — and catches the newscasters so off-guard. Comedian Erica Rhodes recently visited WGN Morning News, and her opening joke took the newscasters so aback that it basically made moving forward with the broadcast impossible.
