‘Fortnite’ Apologizes for (Maybe) Accidentally Putting a Nazi Emote in Their Game
A classic error.

Recently, Fortnite announced that they would be removing the “peaceful hips” emote from the game. Why? Well, because it may contain a swastika. Let me explain.
Basically, the emote was released in collaboration with the show Peacemaker and references a dance performed by the titular character, played by John Cena, in the show’s intro sequence. Part of the dance includes a move where the arms are put in opposite 90-degree angles, then switched.
While this may look like a normal dance move, the problem is that the second season of Peacemaker involves them traveling to an alternate reality where the Nazis won World War II. This has led many to think, understandably, that this very angular dance is a coded reference to the famous symbol employed by the National Socialists.
In a post on X, Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, announced that they would be disabling the emote and refunding people while they “inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote.”
In general, I think it’s a good idea to look out for potential fascist imagery *before* you push out the emote release, but hey, better late than never.
