Gen Alpha No Longer Thinks Farts Are Funny

Farts used to be funny!

According to the teachers of TikTok, their Gen Alpha students — that is, kids born between 2010 and 2024 — no longer laugh when someone farts in class. When a Gen Alpha student does fart, the class allegedly “continues as if nothing happened.” The Gen Alpha spokesperson, who is being asked about this scary phenomenon off-camera by his mother, compares laughing at a fart to laughing at the “hiccups,” saying, “It’s just a normal thing.”

As a kid, if someone farted in class, we all laughed. Not because we were cruel, or because we had never heard a fart before, but because it was funny. And if it was stinky, it was even funnier. But apparently, even if a kid these days lets off a real potent bomb, all Gen Alpha does is cover their nose with their shirt and move on.

Maybe Gen Alpha is just more invested in their studies, but I suspect it’s another example of how the world just sucks right now — and that’s what truly stinks about this whole thing.

@tiltonicatiktok Saw this on a teachers tiktok and didn’t believe it until I asked my own kids. They’re more mature than me cause I still giggle #genalpha#genalphaparent#fartjoke#classroom#classroomhumor♬ original sound - .tilton
