Harvard Professor Opens Class By Admitting That Yes, He Was in *Those* Emails

And you’re still allowed to teach at Harvard?

After the latest email dump, we learned once more that the world’s most powerful people were constantly in contact with the now-departed New York financier, and they weren’t exactly subtle about why.

In emails to and from the infamous Island Boy, numerous politicians and “intellectuals” chat with the man about life, romance and money, with many of these conversations happening long after he was convicted.

Many of these emails are disgusting. However, some are just embarrassing. For example, ex-Harvard president Larry Summers was talking with ol’ Jeffy until literally the day he was arrested. In one particularly sad set of emails, Summers asked Jeff for advice on how to cheat on his wife, then provided a full transcription of a conversation in which he absolutely whiffed it with a woman. Sad!

Now, you might be thinking: if you were talking with this man until literally the day he was arrested, and the emails proved that you are not only amoral but can’t even spell correctly, why should we listen to you? Well, Summers hears you, and he is now trying to answer that question — at the beginning of a Harvard lecture, which he is still allowed and encouraged to give, for some reason.

“I just want to say before we start that it’s not easy for me to be here,” he whined at the beginning of his lecture. “Some of you will have seen my statement of regret, expressing my shame with respect to what I did in communication with [Jeff], and that I’ve said that I’m going to step back from public activities. But for a time, I think it’s very important to fulfill my teaching obligations, and so, with your permission, we’re going to go forward and talk about the material.”

Are you really sorry, buddy? Or are you sorry that you got caught? There’s a difference there — most of us learn it by age 12, but hopefully someone at Harvard can teach you now!

Anyway, Summers has now announced that he’s taking a step back from teaching. Will he learn his lesson? Well, he’s already got an estimated net worth in the tens of millions of dollars, so I’m going to go ahead and say “of course not.”
