Remember 9/11? I know, crazy!

While the events of September 11, 2001 may have shocked the consciousness of the nation, today, many youngsters see it as a meme more than a real, historical occurrence. Memes about the infamous day are all over the internet, from the “They Hit the Second Tower” TikTok trend to people recreating the events in pasta so they “never forgetti.”

That may be why Afghanistan’s 9/11 rugs are so popular online. Many Americans see these rugs, which depict planes flying into the Twin Towers, and are taken aback. However, as this traveler explains, the reasoning behind the creation of these rugs is different than you might think.
