After learning that Pearl Jam's drummer Matt Cameron tested positive for COVID-19, a local 18-year-old drummer from Oakland, California decided to take matters into his own hands by volunteering to join the band at the Oakland Arena last Friday night. Giving his best shot to secure the spot, Neukermans sent a text to Vedder's daughter Olivia Vedder, whom he met at Ohana Fest.

Kai Neukermans the 18-year-old from Mill Valley filled in for Matt Cameron, and did a stand-up job! After having himself just seen Pearl Jam perform in Los Angeles, his family and friends encouraged him to offer his help. Can you imagine how excited he was when he got the callback. "Hey, yeah sure kid, you can play with us. Practice is at 10 am." Needless to say, this is a moment Kai will never forget, and hopefully, we'll see him headlining shows this big in his own band someday.
