‘Homeless People Don’t Care If I Use Them for Views’: Old Mr. Beast Clip Exposes His Real Motivations

Mr. Beast recently posted a video to his Beast Philanthropy YouTube channel, "Giving 20,000 Shoes To Kids In Africa." It is a great charitable deed, and the kind of altruistic act that the YouTube megastar has become known for. But with the video racking up 1.6 million views in 21 hours at time of writing, and sitting at #1 on YouTube Trending, it is important that we remember this quote from the early days of Mr. Beast: "Homeless people don't care if I use them for views."

Many people, including Spurt Magoo who shared this clip on Twitter, feel uneasy about Mr. Beast's style of philanthropy. It is not a stretch to say that a video generating massive attention and profit off of an underprivileged person is exploitative, and in this clip, Mr. Beast all but admits to ulterior motives of money and fame. Still, it is hard to argue that the impact of somebody like Mr. Beast is not a net positive. After all, without the views from the last video, there wouldn't be money to create the next one, and help somebody else. Mr. Beast explains his philanthropy channel's business model in this tweet. He calls it a "loop of helping." In his own words, "Film good deed, inspire millions of kids to do good, use revenue from good deed to do next good deed." Still, some views along the way can't hurt.
