Capitalism means that businesses are always looking for ways to cut costs. Unfortunately for us workers, one of the easiest places to reduce your spending is to, well, reduce your workforce. “Listen, I know you have a family, but our growth last quarter was down by two percent — so say hello to the unemployment line!”

When a company cuts staff, they usually do one of two things. First, they can absorb the role into an existing one (usually not paying that person any more for taking on all the extra work). Second, they can outsource the role, usually to another country.

If you think your job is immune from outsourcing, well, think again, because hotel guests are reporting that even front-desk workers are being outsourced, with the tasks of checking in and out handled by someone on a video call.
