Ireland Is Placing New Prisoners in VR Jail
They say it will reduce stress and anxiety before they go to *actual* jail.

I’d imagine that being sent to prison isn’t on most people’s “Top 5 List of Things They Want to Do.” There are a million reasons why going to prison is rough: Prisons can be dangerous, you’re away from your friends and family, and once you’re in, you’re constantly left wondering what’s going on outside — and if you’ll be able to fit back in once you return.
The country of Ireland saw all this and thought, “What if we put arrested people in a V.R. prison first?” Not sure how that will help, but okay!
According to the Irish Prison Service, this initiative allows new prisoners and people curious about the Irish prison system to get a better understanding of what being booked is like.
This, they say, will allow new prisoners to understand what their new accommodations are like and what resources are available to them before they actually go there. Of course, whether they actually get to *use* those resources is an open question — The Journal reports that there are currently 2,000 people serving in Irish prisons who are on the waiting list for psychology services — but why spend your money on them when you can buy another Meta Quest?
