Mitch McConnell, the 83-year-old senator from Kentucky, took a tumble in the halls of Congress yesterday after being confronted by two members of the environmental advocacy group Sunrise Movement. McConnell, who recently announced he won’t seek reelection (finally), briefly let go of his handler’s arm, causing him to lose his balance and fall.

McConnell has had his fair share of age-related episodes over the last few years. In March 2023, he was hospitalized after a fall at a private dinner that left him with a concussion and a rib fracture. Then, in July and August, he suffered two public freezing episodes, standing silent and motionless until aides led him away from cameras.

I think it’s past time we install age limits. We have more rigorous standards for elderly drivers than members of Congress.
