Bianca Adler, a 17-year-old Australian-French mountaineer, is lucky to be alive. In a series of videos posted to the young climber’s social media channels, Adler documents what it looks like spending four long days trapped in Mount Everest’s famous “Death Zone.”
On September 9th, Adler posted her first video from inside the Death Zone, which sits at 8,000 meters above sea level and is the final base camp before the South Col route to the summit. In the video, Adler lip-syncs along to Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby,” which is captioned, “highest ice ice baby? had oxygen nearby, haha.”
Days later, Adler followed up with an update, claiming she was unable to reach the summit due to “extremely unpredicted and dangerous weather conditions.” In this video, her face appears to be frostbitten, and she can hardly speak as she is out of breath. With an oxygen mask in her hand, she says she’s been forced to leave the mountain.
That video is set to “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.
@biancaaadler feeling horrible in the death zone after attempting an Everest summit. Unfortunately, due to extremely unpredicted, and dangerous weather conditions, I was forced to turn around at 8500m (300m below the top) - in the death zone we are slowly deteriorating #fyp#viral#everest#nature#nature♬ Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
