Pokémon Probably Won’t Sue the Department of Homeland Security for Using Its IP

Gotta sue ‘em all.

According to IGN, a former employee for the Pokémon Company said it’s unlikely that the company will take action against the Department of Homeland Security after its brand and theme song were used in a video montage depicting violent ICE raids.

Don McGowan, the former chief legal officer for Pokémon, provided a few reasons why, one of them being that “many of their execs in the USA are on green cards," but mostly because, in a matter of days, most people will have forgotten about it.

Pokémon is a very “publicity-shy” company, per McGowan, and headlines of a lawsuit aimed at the U.S. government are the last thing it wants to be associated with.

That said, if Pokémon wanted to take down the video without launching a lawsuit, they could file a copyright claim with X.
