Police Are Now Trying to Stop Trespassers With Robots That Yell at Them

Will it work? We shall see! (It won’t.)

What stops people from committing crimes? Is it having all of their needs taken care of so that they don’t feel crime is necessary to survive? Is it a whole bunch of police officers threatening to blow their brains out if they try to steal a single Labubu? Or is it another force entirely of which criminologists aren’t yet aware?

British property owners are now gambling on a different option. The reason that people commit crimes, they think, is because there isn’t a box yelling at them in an Irish accent telling them to knock it off.

To resolve this, they’ve begun constructing robots on the edges of private property that call the police and scream at anyone who dares come too close to them. The result? Well, there haven’t been any major trespassing attempts, but there *have* been a lot of locals and dogwalkers who have had the shit scared out of them.

Only time will tell if this is an effective deterrent, but seeing as it can be defeated by simply throwing a garbage bag over it, I can’t imagine it will be.
