Gen Z Is Trying to Fix Their Poor Attention Spans by ‘Rawdogging Life’
It’s called “logging off.”

Gen Z is fighting to reclaim their attention spans. In a world of social media apps designed to maximize user engagement, many people, not just Gen Z-ers, are finding it harder to pay attention. If you have a phone, you’ve probably noticed it yourself.
One TikTok influencer who bills himself as a “productivity coach” thinks he has found a way to exercise his attention span: sitting around doing absolutely nothing.
The phrase “rawdogging life” comes from a viral TikTok trend where people were “rawdogging flights,” meaning they’d skip watching movies or listening to music and spend the entire flight staring at their flight screens instead.
Productive.Rowan, the productivity coach behind the idea, is currently on day 10 of his 30-day “rawdogging challenge.” Each day, he posts an edit on TikTok of his “one-hour rawdog” session, which is literally just him sitting in a chair doing nothing.
According to a Post University study, if you want to increase your attention span, eating healthy, exercising regularly, getting decent sleep and meditation are all tried and true ways to help keep your brain healthy. Activities like reading and games such as chess are also great for strengthening focus.
However, there is no data to suggest that sitting around doing nothing is beneficial.
@productive.rowan Recently, I have been struggling with having short attention span. Constant dopamine hits from my phone, caffeine, sugary foods and games. This gave me such hard time to focus on my work and the things I really care about. Then I came across a challenge for fixing your attention span. The premise for this challenge is for your brain to take a break and wander off freely without any stimulation. This is my first day of this challenge. I never tried this and it was challenging. Just sitting there doing nothing was a lot harder than I thought. I’m going to be doing this challenge for 30 days to show the difference. #dopaminedetox#100dayschallenge#focus#productivity#habitstacking♬ original sound - productive.rowan
