Video of a man running toward a moving car and bashing his head against its hood has begun making the rounds on X, and users are saying it’s a sign that Russia is experiencing a “zombie outbreak.”

After conducting a short Google search, I can confirm there are no legitimate reports that Russia is dealing with a “zombie outbreak,” however, back in February, Popular Mechanics posted an article detailing how a group of Russian scientists successfully brought a 24,000-year-old zombie worm back to life.

The “zombie worms” were collected from Serbia’s permafrost and thawed. The point of the study was to help scientists understand why some organisms can live in incredibly harsh environments, and helped further the understanding of “cryptobiosis,” or a state organisms can enter that helps “prolong their lives.”

While it’s clear the rumors of a zombie outbreak are overblown, the jury is still out on whether those zombie worms have entered people’s brains.
