Senegalese officials have discontinued Akon’s $6 billion “crypto-powered” smart city, opting instead to build a $1.2 billion luxury resort after the Grammy-winning R&B artist failed to deliver on his vision of creating a “real-life Wakanda,” according to Bloomberg.
Senegal set aside 136 acres of land for the project in 2020, and the first structure, a state-of-the-art hospital, was scheduled for completion in 2023. But at the moment, the only completed buildings are a “youth center, a basketball court and a small information center.”
