One of the beautiful and terrifying things about humans is that we’ll turn anything into a competition. Give us the ability to run, and we’ll have people devote their lives to being able to do so the fastest. Give us the ability to crawl, and, well, surely no one would spend their life trying to be the fastest crawler, right?

Wrong. A 22-year-old Japanese man named Ryusei Yonee recently broke the world record for the fastest four-legged sprint in 100 meters. Claiming that he’s been training since middle school, Yonee said he observed four-legged animals and worked out in the sand to improve his technique.

Now, he says, he’s the fastest man on four legs — and he claims that, with time, he’ll only get faster. “I will train harder than ever before. I want to do whatever I can to grow the all-four sports, wherever that may be,” he said.

It won’t — there are basically no all-fours sports — but I like the mentality!
