The town of Dharali in the Uttarkashi region of India is currently reeling from an incident in which sudden rainfall caused massive downhill flooding — so much so that a significant portion of the town was caught up in the waters and destroyed.

Making matters worse, continued heavy rains are complicating rescue efforts, and officials are presently unsure of how many people were impacted by or lost in the flood and subsequent avalanche.
