Is this bad?

A.I. data centers use a lot of water. Like millions and millions of gallons of water a year. And for what? So they can lie to people about basic facts that are easily searchable online?

Well, yeah, exactly that.

According to The Austin Chronicle, a joint Microsoft and U.S. Army A.I. data center in San Antonio used “463 million gallons of water in 2023 and 2024.” That’s the equivalent water usage of around 10,000 single-family households.

In Albine, where Microsoft and OpenAI are currently building their “Stargate” A.I. data center, water is already scarce as the county has been suffering from a prolonged drought. Concerns are obviously rising as this data center has been billed as one of the most audacious of its kind, though a big drawback is that it will require residents to curb their water consumption.

So, good news for people who like A.I. slop, and bad news for people who like showers.
