The Rock and Dave Bautista Are Trying to See Who Can Become the Skinniest Ex-Wrestler-Turned-Serious-Actor Fastest

Big dudes with muscles are out. Slightly smaller dudes with muscles are in.

At a time when everyone is protein-obsessed and your dad is thinking about taking creatine, something strange is happening in the world of mainstream musclemen: They’re getting smaller.

The Rock was recently spotted looking more muscular than 99 percent of other humans on the planet, but still somehow much smaller than he was before.

He’s not alone, either. Dave Bautista recently lost a considerable amount of weight, telling TODAY that he chose to shed the pounds because he had gotten, in his words, “uncomfortably big.” In the case of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the weight loss was likely for his role in the new film The Smashing Machine.

Does this mean that muscles are out of fashion and that movie stars will stop having to get shredded to play superheroes again? Probably not. However, it’s at least a step in a good direction — you know, one where people don’t think being muscular means not being able to fit through a door.
