Throughout history, beer has been important. Up until the relatively recent past, pretty much every task you could perform was done slightly drunk. In fact, in the 16th century, a single person consumed about 750 ml (or three cups) of beer every day.

That said, what was substantially *more* important was medical care. It still is more important to this day, despite what this waiter apparently thinks. According to him, it was the EMT who was in the wrong for making him spill all his beers just because he was “saving someone’s life.”
