Every few months, a police department announces that they’ve spent a boatload of your tax dollars on a robot, only to reveal a few months later that they never figured out exactly what to do with it.

It turns out, the police aren’t alone in wasting money on security robots. Some Walmart locations have recently debuted security robots that will patrol the parking lot and, well, it’s unclear what they can do after that, really. Maybe they’ll call a real security guard if they see a crime being committed? Or maybe the robots are just there for vibes — who knows!
