Some mechanics would like you to believe that cars are big, scary things that can only be repaired by trained experts. In reality, there are many minor fixes and alterations you can make to your car by yourself, no trip to the auto shop required. For example, need to change your cabin air filter? Just get the part and do it — and Jiffy Lube can go to hell!

However, if you’re going to do something like, say, jump a car, while the process might be easy, you actually have to know what you’re doing. Otherwise, something like this could happen:
