There's been a lot of talk over these last few weeks about states, mostly Texas, and their hangers, wanting to secede from the United States of America. And while they aren't the first to drum the debate and they won't be the last, there is one group of people getting caught in the crossfire, Facebook moms.

Without spending too much time trying to explain how we got here (Texas is fighting the federal government over its right to install razor wire at the border), we'll instead focus on the possible outcomes of Texas leaving the union, and the outcomes that matter most to the average American, government assistance (or, welfare).

The easy thing to do is to laugh at these Facebook Boomers and though it's harder to try and reason with them, it isn't so hard to understand where they're coming from.

The thought experiment in question was originally posted to a private Facebook group, 'Texas Patriots for Secession,' and received a lowly 50-odd likes and over 100 comments. The group is over 10 years old (never let your dreams die) and only has some 3,000 members.

Now you might be wondering, how much federal aid Texas receives in a given year, and if Texas became its own nation, could it foot the bill itself? Well, according to The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Texas will receive a total of $40 billion. Texas ranks 29th in "reliance on federal funding" and is the state with the fourth-highest yearly aid package from the federal government.

So while Barbra, we can say that if Texas left the U.S. there would be a drop in federal aid available for Texans, I guess that's just a risk you're going to have to take.
