A video has gone viral that allegedly shows female students beating up a teacher accused of sexually harassing and assaulting other female students and teachers. The video, reportedly taken at the Cecyt 8 school which is part of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico City, shows a masked girl standing at the front of the classroom next to the teacher in question, accusing him of harassment and making threats.

She continues, “We don’t want you in the institution, and if that doesn’t happen, we will have no other choice than to go on strike.” She explains that this isn’t the first time he’s had relations with a minor and that the school’s administration has ignored their concerns, which has left them with no other choice but to take matters into their own hands. She then says, “Go ahead girls, you know what to do,” leading to a group of several similarly masked girls surrounding the man and beating him up.

Other videos show the group dragging him outside while shouting, “Palma out!” and pouring purple paint on him and reminding him that girls also have rights — purple being a color associated with the feminist movement in Mexico. The students spray painted their accusations on the classroom whiteboard and on the external walls of the school as well.

According to Mexico Rojo News on Instagram, former students have come forward since the videos went viral to share their own experiences of facing sexual harassment and being ignored by school authorities.

The response on social media was overwhelmingly positive, with one person commenting, “This is amazing! I hate that they went through so much trauma that they had to do this, but I’m also in awe of their power!” Meanwhile, someone else wrote, “They did the right thing but he needs more than just that. Hope the police are waiting outside for him.”

Near the end of the video, a teacher who claimed to also be a lawyer appeared and suggested the group file a complaint with the Public Ministry, to which the group responded that they had and nothing had been done.

Perhaps they should spray paint them, too?
