Listen, I’m not one of those people who’s a total doomer about the state of American education. Yes, browsing TikTok and Instagram may lead you to believe that people are getting dumber, but you can’t tell me if those platforms were around in the early 1900s people wouldn’t be coming to the same conclusion.

That said, this was still pretty difficult to watch:

In the video, a dude goes up to young people and asks them to answer some pretty simple questions. These questions range from “how many states are there” to “when was the War of 1812.”

It’s understandable to have some hesitation for a few of these questions. If I was hammered trying to enjoy my evening in New York, and some dude with an iPhone came up to me and asked, “What’s the population of the United States,” I’m positive it would take me a few seconds before I’d spit out an answer.

However, some of these answers, presuming that this video wasn’t staged, are pretty pathetic. C’mon, you should know what the third month in a year is called — it literally happens every single year!

Maybe it’s not surprising that U.S. reading and math scores have dropped to their lowest levels in decades. Oh well — at least we’re getting some content out of it.
