Everyone has a hobby, and some hobbies are stranger than others. For example, this man pours peas into vending machines.

Let’s back up a bit. Redditor santagrillcheese recently took to Reddit’s r/confessions to let loose a wild one: Ever since he was 11 years old, he’s been dumping peas into the pickup areas of vending machines.

According to santagrillcheese, he began doing this as a bit in a specific restaurant. As time went on, however, he realized that he could scale his activities, expanding his reach by going into any place that had a vending machine and filling it up with peas.

“I eventually started carrying peas with me everywhere, just in case I see a vending machine in public and have the urge to deposit my trusty peas into it,” he writes. “I’ve probably done this to at least ~104 vending machines (I’ve been keeping count) in the past 14 years, and I don’t plan to stop any time soon.”

Over time, he’s even developed methods to ensure that his pea-dropping plan goes off without a hitch. This includes making sure the peas are frozen “so they don’t get mushed up in my pocket,” though he does admit to occasionally using fresh or cooked peas just to “spice it up.” According to him, “It leaves quite the foul stench.”

Who knows if this story is real? You’d think that if it happened this often, someone would post about it — and searching the internet for “vending machine peas” doesn’t lead you anywhere exciting.

Still, I choose to believe that there really is a man in Cincinnati dumping peas into vending machines just to surprise anyone craving a can of Coke. Rock on, santagrillcheese. Rock on.
