Hawaiian airlines flight - turbulence

Hawaiian Airlines flight 35 from Phoenix to Honolulu encountered severe turbulence about 30 minutes before touchdown, resulting in significant interior damage, and numerous injuries. After landing, 20 people were taken to the hospital with 11 in serious condition. The injured included three flight attendants and a 14-month-old child. The Airbus A330 was carrying a full compliment of 278 passengers and 10 crew members.

Two big drops were apparently responsible for the majority of the damage, and new footage is emerging showing the aftermath of the turbulence. And the videos are terrifying.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, although it is currently attributed to thunderstorms in the area. The seatbelt sign was on when the turbulence began.

While this incident is alarming, it serves as a good reminder to always have your seatbelt fastened, and evidence that planes can go through quite a bit and still come home safely.
