People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, have drummed up a lot of controversy in recent years, and not always in the way they want to. For example, they’ve been roundly criticized for pulling such PR stunts as getting mad about saying cheese while taking a picture and Mario’s tanooki suit. They even made their own terrible flash game about the latter!

PETA’s X/Twitter feed is full of both genuine concerns about animals and some of the dumbest fake controversies you can imagine. Case in point: They’ve recently launched a campaign against the famous Iditarod dog race. While their website notes some valid issues around sled dogs, they’ve decided that the best way to combat the popular dog race is through furry art.

In this picture posted by the group, a dog man can be seen on a sled being pulled by two people. “You wouldn’t want this and dogs forced to race in the #Iditarod don’t either,” the post reads.

Unfortunately for PETA, they underestimated the internet — and just how many people want to be on all fours being abused by a man-shaped animal.

For now, maybe PETA should turn inward, not only to root out who managed to get furry art on their feed, but also to resolve the pay and labor issues that plague many of their Glassdoor reviews. One reviewer even said that “leadership doesn’t seem to value human rights” — and that’s not even mentioning what comes up if you Google “PETA kills animals”!
