Gone are the days of boring graphs and pie charts. Data visualization is a booming field in 2024, with people competing to come up with increasingly elaborate and unique ways to display their numbers. But unfortunately for all of the data nerds and news outlets out there, one crafty creator might have them all beat with her orgasm blanket.

Lali Kalayana, a designer who crochets one-of-a-kind wearables, recently announced her new project for 2024: an orgasm blanket designed to depict the number of orgasms she has every day. In her first post about the O Blanket, she wrote, “I came up with the idea of making the Orgasm Blanket last year. In a nutshell, I will: record a specific value each day for a year (in this case, orgasms) assign colors to these values (0=white, 1=light pink, 2=pink, 3=dark pink) and create a blanket (based off of said values and their corresponding colors).”

“My goal is to create something beautiful, highlight the health benefits of orgasms, and do something out of my comfort zone,” she continued. “Orgasms are one of the purest, most divine acts we can experience as humans. So I thought why not create an O Blanket this year!”

Her journey, though — at least in terms of representing data via crocheting — actually started last year. That’s when she made her first “temperature blanket,” or a blanket that uses different colors to record daily temperatures over a certain period, often a year. “It was a wedding gift for my friends Julie and Sarah,” Lali tells me. “They live in Amsterdam, so I used the average daily temperature to create it.”

“I had so much fun making their blanket that I decided I wanted to make one for myself, but I wanted it to be more personal,” she continues. “I thought tracking my orgasms would be an interesting spin on it. Orgasms are highly stigmatized, and many people are repulsed by the discussion of them. However, I feel that human pleasure should be destigmatized — if anything, it should be celebrated. My main inspiration for making this blanket stems from a desire to be more vulnerable artistically and to open up a dialogue on a taboo subject.”

So much so, in fact, that she’s encouraging others to make their own orgasm blankets, hoping that it will help her followers come (cum?) together. “I created an orgasm blanket guide and monthly tracker, which is available on Etsy and KoFi,” she explains. “I’ve had quite a few people reach out to say they’re working on their own orgasm blanket now, which is such a joy to hear!”

As for her own orgasm blanket, it’s now in its sixth week, with Lali recently sharing a personal update with some sad news explaining that she hasn’t had the ability to focus on orgasming as much as she’d like lately.

Already, the blanket and its colors are reflective of life’s ups and downs — sometimes it’s a three-orgasms-a-day every day kind of week, and sometimes life just seems determined to prevent you from enjoying yourself.
