If you’ve ever been on a plane, you’ve probably heard, and ignored, the safety instructions at the beginning of the flight.

While they’re certainly more necessary than ever (given the recent trend of Boeing planes falling apart mid-air), darn it, they’re just so boring! Who can’t figure out how to buckle a seat belt?!?!

Well, if you did listen, you would know that in an emergency situation where you need to deplane, you’re not supposed to take your bags with you. Otherwise, this could happen:

According to a Geocities-looking website that calls itself the Aviation Herald (it’s a solid source, but c’mon, guys — would it hurt to learn a little CSS?), the flight in question was Laser Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83.

“Passengers reported they were just arriving from Maracaibo when the smoke appeared in the cabin and the slides were suddenly deployed,” writes author Simon Hradecky.

While no one reported any serious injuries, those who chose to bring their bags with them off the flight quickly realized why this was a bad idea. Multiple people got bonked on the way down, and one woman’s bag threw off her center of gravity so much that she proceeded to fall face first into the pavement.

Amazingly, the aircraft was able later to depart with its passengers just three hours after its scheduled time. Bet those people who ate shit trying to flee with their bags feel pretty stupid, huh?
