While we may be busy trying to source a pair of last-minute ISO-certified glasses to watch today’s solar eclipse, the witches of Reddit have much bigger plans for the astrological event: Planning how they’re going to hex us.

Redditor u/Goobers_Cry headed to r/Witchcraft last April with a question for the subreddit’s magically-inclined users, questioning how they plan to make the most of the rare astrological event.

“What are you all doing for the solar eclipse?” they wrote. “Like what kind of spells/rituals are you guys doing cause I can't think of anything.”

Though u/Goobers_Cry may have been at a loss for how to best harness the power of the eclipse, several other witches were not, flocking to the comments to share how they planned to spend that fateful day.

“I have a motivation spell that I'm preparing for the next 14 days consisting of 2 orange candles, positive affirmations that I seek to achieve, crystals associated with chakras I believe are blocked, photos that align with my vision of success, as well as offerings for my ancestors to aid me,” commented u/khveteran while u/kai-ote likened the event to a typical new moon.

“Unless I can see it where I live, which, this one, I can't, it is just pretty much only another new moon to me. So my normal new moon stuff,” they wrote.

“I've heard eclipses are an auspicious time to do rituals, but as someone with a strong connection to the moon, the eclipse feels like the PERFECT time for some self-assertion,” explained WillowTheGoth on a similar thread in r/WitchesVSPatriarchy. “I've had a lot of bad times recently that's shaken my faith and confidence in myself, so I'm doing a ritual involving burning a scrap of fabric from a dress I now have bad memories with but used to love (letting go), vesta powder, sage, and sweetgrass.”

u/athameitbeso, however, decided to take their ritual very old school, sharing their intention to pull some ancient deities into the mix.

“I’m going to light a candle, make an offering to Selene, Artemis, and Hekate, make a petition,” they added.

Yet not every witchcraft enthusiast was sold on eclipse magic, some deeming the energy just “too chaotic” to effectively wield without some weird, monkey-paw results.

“It really does depend on how you practice,” wrote wardrobewench1983 in a r/Witch thread. “Some people really like working with the energy of an eclipse. But then people like me are just hunkering down and not doing anything but surviving because the energy is too chaotic.”

But whether or not you’re laying out all your crystals or hunkering down and waiting for this damn eclipse energy to dissipate,  just try not to blind yourself by staring directly into the sun.
