Dating people you meet on apps is a real mixed bag. If you don’t have any friends in common it’s incredibly hard to vet them or verify anything they tell you, which can be crucial if you suspect they’re lying to you about being an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

@jennajean8 #onthisday my most viral video to date, nearly 15 million views. since then i found some real hard proof that he was in fact not an FBI agent, was published on Yahoo News and went on the Something Was Wrong podcast to tell the whole story. what a ride this one took me on #exboyfriendstorytime #fbiagent ♬ original sound - Jenna Jean

TikToker Jenna Jean learned this the hard way after dating a man she met on Hinge. On their very first date, he let slip that he was an FBI agent, but in subsequent conversations with other people, he would play coy and simply say that he worked for the government. When Jenna asked him about the discrepancy, he said, “I knew I could trust you,” despite telling her literally minutes after first meeting her.

He also used his job as an excuse to not share anything, including responses to incredibly mundane questions like, “How was your day today?” She accepted that this was normal for someone in his line of work, as well as the lack of social media, lack of friends (they were all on ‘special missions’), and lack of real personal information.

One example Jenna gives is that he told her he grew up on a ranch in Colorado but later admitted that he went to elementary school in New Jersey - that’s a hell of a commute for a seven-year-old.

Perhaps the most egregious lie was when he claimed to know that Jenna’s ex had been texting her because of his work; her roommate later informed her that they had seen him going through her phone and laptop.

Halfway through their relationship, he told her he had to go to Washington D.C. for training - his explanation for how he had become an agent without training was a convoluted one involving COVID restrictions and the FBI’s desperate need for untrained agents. Sure thing.

While he was at ‘training,’ the couple broke up. Despite this, three months into his ‘training,’ he called her and claimed that they accelerated their training because of COVID and he was actually on his first assignment. At this point, Jenna thankfully finally realized he was lying, and she added in the video’s caption that since initially sharing her story, she has found hard proof that he was not, in fact, an FBI agent, a revelation that came as a shock to literally no one.
