Climategate!

We get some chuckle-heads on this website that belligerently denigrate any thought that our bad habits as humans could negatively impact the climate.  You might even have seen a couple people say that human climate change has been debunked, that the secret is out, it's all a lie.  They'll tell you that "there's no consensus" in the scientific community about climate change.  This is in spite of the fact that over 95% of climatologists agree that, beyond a reasonable doubt, we're driving the climate change.

One of the biggest tools that the doubters have to justify their positions are the infamous hacked emails.  People will, with a straight face and absolute sincerity assure you that they show human driven climate change is a hoax.  It's a 'trick' that researchers used to enrich themselves or promote some massive conspiracy.

I've talked to many of these people.  It seems to always come down to just a couple out of context quotes that sound quite damning, but only when used out of context.

I've resisted the urge to embed videos on blogs, but I'm going to waffle here and do it.  I found a good, short video that does a good job of addressing the ridiculous claims of intentionally deceptive science and conspiracy.

Since there are so many scientifically illiterate doubters around here, I'd like to throw down the gauntlet and invite them to express their doubts.  I propose you list your doubt or objection to the science of human driven climate change in a comment and I'll reply to it.  Make sure you only list a single objection per comment so it'll be easy to follow.

For example:

Comment:  "But Tom, even though you're a genius and everybody loves you, you must know that the hottest year on record was in 1934.  This is clearly long before human CO2 emissions could have impacted the atmosphere substantially."

Reply:  "While I agree with you that I'm a genius and everybody loves me, I'd like to point out that 1934 was one of the hottest years in the US, not globally."

In the video below, make sure to appreciate the Alex Jones rants.  This guy is a fucking freak.  A retarded, hyperbolic, self promoting, uneducated, exploitative, manipulative, supremely amusing freak.

Edit:  Odd.  Even though the embedded video shows up on the page when I'm editting the blog, it doesn't show up when I view the blog.  The bold and italicized characters aren't showing up either.  Oh well, I'll leave the embed here and post the URL for the video in case it doesn't work.
